Harp player/vocalist (and occasional tenor sax) player Roger Wade fronts this German-based outfit, and the Houserockers include the impressive Marion Wade on keys, and the excellent guitarist T-Man Michalke. Material includes a really fine version of Paul Gayten’s ‘For You My Love’, and a cracking good stab at ‘Mona’ with blueswailing harp. There is also a rocking sprint through Dave Bartholomew’s stomper ‘Good Jax Boogie’, with a storming chorus by T-Man, and an absolutely fabulous, Guitar Slim inspired, (featuring guest singer Marc T.) take on ‘Oh!Darling’, which in my ignorance, never having been a Beatles fan, didn’t realise the composer, one McCartney was Heather Mills former old man!
The originals include a Sonny Boy inspired ‘Going Back Home’ (firmly in the tradition of the sessions he did for Storyville), a real old fashioned, dog rough shuffle ‘You’re Getting On My Nerves’ which could have stepped out of the door of the Vee-Jay studio, a slab of rock’n’roll titled ‘Duracell Woman’, and finally a lazily swinging, T-Bone Walker-ish ‘I Wanna Hold You’.
Little Roger And The Houserockers are mighty impressive, they play the real stuff with absolutely no nods to the dreaded rock, I liked it a lot and if you have big enough ears I’m sure you will too! Blues & Rhythm Magazine
